Winkelhaus, designed by estudio kmmk, is a single-family dwelling that reflects the studio's philosophy of architecture influenced by nature. The project, situated in Winkel, Switzerland, encompasses 643 square meters and is the studio's first endeavour in the nation. Designed to integrate with its wooded environment and vast valley, the residence features a subtle curve that orients all principal living areas towards the valley vistas while providing privacy from the street. This architectural gesture enables the structure to function as a radial arrangement of rooms that secures the residence to the hillside, guaranteeing that the everyday activities of its occupants remain perpetually linked to the changing seasons and surrounding nature.

Concrete surfaces and extensive glazing provide outward views, while the building's position optimises natural light and facilitates seamless transitions between inner and external environments. The design highlights sustainability and craftsmanship, establishing the home as a functional residence and a representation of modern architectural principles. Contrary to its sturdy façade, the interior of the Winkelhaus exhibits remarkable restraint and a nearly monochromatic colour scheme. Whitewashed natural wood, plastered walls, and light flooring establish a serene, gallery-like ambiance that directs the observer's focus toward the natural environment. Premium finishes and goods from manufacturers such Dornbracht, Miele, BWB, Huber Fenster AG, Senso, and Wever & Ducré highlight the meticulous attention to detail.
