One of the few black-dial variations featuring diamond indices and an original 18k "tile" bracelet.

The timepiece that just sold for €5,330,000 EUR (about $6.2 million USD) at the Monaco Legends auction is the extraordinarily rare Rolex reference 6062, securing its position among the most expensive Rolex watches ever sold. This Moonphase Triple Calendar automatic, encased in 18K yellow gold and originating from around 1953, signifies a crucial juncture in Rolex history when the brand combined a comprehensive calendar complexity with the robust dependability of its iconic waterproof Oyster shell.
The 6062 is among Rolex's rarest mid-century complexities, with approximately 350 specimens said to have been manufactured. Black-dial versions featuring diamond indices hold a near-mythic status among collectors, with configurations like the stelline star markers and the esteemed "Bao Dai" specimen being particularly coveted. This item, one of the few known with this dial and diamond configuration, is among the most sought-after versions of the reference.
This watch possesses significant provenance, having featured in notable auctions such as Antiquorum’s Mondani Collection in 2006, and it is recorded in essential reference texts on antique Rolex wristwatches. Its reintroduction to the market following prolonged private ownership, along with its exceptional condition, unique configuration, and genuine 18K yellow-gold “tile” bracelet, rendered it a headline lot that garnered significant interest from experienced collectors.
