The NEIGHBORHOOD x Vans Authentic 44 is the most recent collaboration in a nearly two-decade connection between Shinsuke Takizawa's Tokyo brand and the California skating institution. The two-piece pack has black suede and chalk white suede, characterized by tonal construction, debossed toe box lettering, and etched sidewall branding that alludes to NEIGHBORHOOD's foundation in 1994, coinciding with the collaborators' debut at Paris Fashion Week. NEIGHBORHOOD has been based in Harajuku since its establishment by Takizawa in 1994, cultivating a design ethos grounded in military surplus, motorcycle culture, and American workwear, emphasizing material integrity and utilitarian details over ostentatious branding. The slogan “Craft With Pride” has been a foundational tenet for the label throughout its thirty-year history, and its presence on the sidewalls of this Authentic 44 pack serves more as a declaration of design philosophy than as just decorative branding.

The packaging itself maintains that philosophy prominently. The black and chalk white colors are made of suede, predominantly tonal, including debossed lettering on the toe box that creates a stamped appearance, aligning with NEIGHBORHOOD’s dog tag-inspired visual motif. The shoe's collective identity is conveyed through a subtle, intentional feature that does not overwhelm the design. The sidewalls feature a prominent branding element: engraved serif typography stating “Craft With Pride Tokyo Est. 1994,” explicitly linking the release to NEIGHBORHOOD’s inception year and hometown. The line predominates the visual weight against the unembellished suede upper.

Takizawa's label and Vans have established a consistently understated collaboration connection in the streetwear-related footwear sector, repeatedly engaging with one another over several models and years, devoid of the limited-edition fanfare that typically characterizes brand alliances. The Authentic has already emerged in their collective production, and this current version maintains a trend of restraint, allowing high-quality materials and tonal composition to take precedence over graphic alterations or drastic silhouette modifications. The suede construction, embossed details, and subdued color scheme uniquely characterize the pack as NEIGHBORHOOD while maintaining the Authentic 44’s pristine, unadorned legacy.
