The $1 Billion USD Archaeological Museum in Egypt Is Set to Open This Fall

Nestled adjacent to the Giza pyramids, it is the largest museum globally devoted to a singular culture.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a significant cultural initiative, will officially open to the public on November 1, heralding a new age for tourism and archeology in Egypt. Situated on the Giza Plateau, only two kilometers from the renowned pyramids, this billion-dollar establishment will be the greatest museum globally devoted to a singular civilization.

The GEM is a significant accomplishment, covering 120 acres and containing over 100,000 objects, with more than 20,000 displayed to the public for the first time. The museum's most awaited exhibit is the whole collection from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, to be shown in its entirety for the first time since its discovery in 1922. This encompasses the renowned golden mask, chariots, jewels, and sarcophagi.

The museum's contemporary, angular architecture reflects the adjacent pyramids, and guests will encounter a monumental, 83-ton statue of Ramesses II in the expansive atrium. A chronological stairway will lead visitors through 7,000 years of history, illustrating the evolution of art and craftsmanship. The GEM, with its extensive collection and cutting-edge facilities, is set to emerge as a global attraction, merging historical marvels with a contemporary, immersive experience.
