Roger Dubuis advances its Arthurian narrative with the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Enchanter Merlin — the second installment in “The Tale of Merlin” succeeding 2024’s Omniscient Merlin. This edition transitions from basalt-inspired gloom to a luminous white-and-gold hue, honoring Merlin’s ethereal Crystal Palace constructed for the Lady of the Lake. The watch converts its dial into a micro-sculptural domain, where glimmering columns ascend like palace walls over an undulating lake of metallic crystals.

Each dial features an 18k pink-gold base plate, meticulously machined with hexagonal apertures that accommodate 56 columns of diverse materials and elevations: nine in Murano-style glass, 19 in polished white enamel, 10 in matte white enamel, nine in polished pink gold, and nine in rhodium-plated gold — all topped with invisibly set hexagonal diamonds. These columns, measuring between 0.2 mm and 3.7 mm in height, form a multidimensional terrain, while a layer of shimmering ruthenium crystals at the foot of the dial conjures the image of sunlight glimmering on a tranquil lake, enhancing the palace's otherworldly fantasy.

Surrounding this crystalline display are the twelve Knights of the Round Table, each a six-millimeter-tall figure crafted from 18k pink gold. The knights originate as hand-sculpted resin prototypes, which are subsequently 3D-scanned, molded, and cast. Master engravers then dedicate two to three days to imparting lifelike detail and a subtle black patina to each sword, helmet, and armor plate. Positioned atop a Murano-glass flange adorned with golden indices, these watchful sentinels serve as hour markers, encapsulating the notions of protection and chivalry inherent in the timepiece.

The Enchanter Merlin is encased in a 45 mm 18k pink-gold Excalibur case and powered by the in-house Monobalancier RD821 automatic movement, which consists of 172 components and features 14 distinct hand finishes to achieve the Poinçon de Genève certification. A sword-guard crown protector, a sapphire window beneath the bezel, and a 360-degree pink-gold micro-rotor reflect medieval architecture, while a quick-release white leather strap finalizes the ensemble.

The Excalibur Knights of the Round Table: The Enchanter Merlin is restricted to 28 units, priced at 336,000 CHF (about $422,179 USD), and exclusively obtainable through Roger Dubuis boutiques.
