Ridley Scott Receives the 'Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker 2021' Award

Ridley Scott received the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

The Biennale di Venezia and Cartier have declared that British filmmaker and producer Ridley Scott (“Alien,” “Blade Runner,” “The Martian”) will receive the ‘Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award’ at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. The prize honors an individual who has made a substantial creative contribution to modern cinema.


Ridley Scott is a preeminent filmmaker and producer globally, well-acquainted with accolades. His distinguished career is characterized by significant films such as “Thelma & Louise,” “Blade Runner,” “Alien,” and “Gladiator.” The aforementioned picture received the Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Awards for Best Picture. Throughout the years, he has received accolades from the Emmy Awards, Cannes Film Festival, and the PGA Awards.


The 'Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker' awards ceremony occurred on Friday, September 10, 2021, in the Sala Grande, preceding the showing of Scott's forthcoming film, “The Last Duel,” featuring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck. Scott received a trophy crafted by Maison Cartier.


The director of the Venice Film Festival, commended Scott, stating that his “individual approach to genre films, which adeptly harmonizes public expectations with critical demands, is the most distinctive aspect of Ridley Scott’s filmmaking.”



Beginning in 2021, Cartier will collaborate with La Biennale di Venezia as the principal sponsor of the film festival. The Venice International Film Festival and Cartier will honor exceptional filmmakers with the ‘Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award’ as part of their collaboration.

This collaboration with a prominent international cultural event reinforces the Maison's enduring commitment to preserving cultural history and fostering current artistic production.


“Ridley Scott has significantly enhanced the cinematic landscape with his works since the 1970s and has indisputably established himself as a cornerstone of modern artistic expression,” stated Arnaud Carrez, Chief Marketing Officer of Cartier.


Scott has another picture scheduled for release in the United States later this year, "House of Gucci," featuring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino.
