Depancel Marks Its Racing Alliance With the Série R01 DAMS Lucas Oil Limited Edition

Created to honour its collaboration with the DAMS Lucas Oil Formula 2 and Formula 3 team, the limited-edition watch channels the spirit of modern motorsport.

The association between Depancel and the automotive industry is evident and intriguing. The brand's name encapsulates its essence, being a portmanteau of the classic French automobile manufacturers Delage, Panhard, and Facel Vega, with the design drawing inspiration from the 1954 Facel Vega coat of arms. A brief examination of the collection uncovers distinct influences: casings resembling vintage automobile radiator grilles, chronographs featuring tachymeters and racing hues, and a pronounced association with all things automotive. Depancel has recently established a partnership with DAMS Lucas Oil, a team competing in Formula 2 and Formula 3, for the 2026 season. It is now time to unveil the timepiece that commemorates this relationship.

The new Serie R01 Depancel x DAMS Lucas Oil Limited Edition is a timepiece inspired by racing, evident in its colour palette, which reflects that of the F2 car competing this season. For this inaugural joint model, Depancel has chosen its Serie R01 line, characterised by its uniquely formed case, a square with an arch at 12 o’clock, inspired by radiator grilles from vintage automobiles. With a width of 36mm, a height of 43mm (excluding lugs, or 50mm in total length), and a thickness of 12.9mm, it features dynamic edges that are bevelled at 6 and 12 o’clock for enhanced ergonomics. The case features polished accents, straight crown guards on the right side, a commemorative plaque on the left side, and a bevelled sapphire crystal on top. The water resistance is rated at 50 meters, adequate for a race-inspired timepiece.

The dial serves as the most evident link between Depancel and the DAMS Lucas Oil team. The multi-layer dial features a PVD-blue coating, characterised by various stages and textures. The exterior, upper section of the dial displays broad vertical stripes and a first row of applied markers. The center of the dial, encircled by an angled and circular minutes/seconds track, is sunray-brushed and incorporates many elements, including the DAMS emblem and a vertical tricolour stripe, along with two black-framed sub-dials for calendar indications. The entire assembly draws inspiration from automotive gauges, featuring index markers that evoke track markers. The hands and markers are entirely coated with Super-LumiNova C1.

Concealed beneath the transparent caseback is a straightforward yet robust automatic movement, the Miyota 9122, which shares its design with the Calibre 9015. This movement features calendar indications (date, day, and month), operates at a frequency of 4Hz, and has an approximate power reserve of 40 hours. It facilitates the maintenance of a reasonable price.

Depancel provides an option of two straps (20mm lug width) for its Serie R01 DAMS Lucas Oil Limited Edition. The initial item is a vented blue FKM rubber strap featuring a steel pin buckle, designed for a contemporary aesthetic. The second item is a perforated blue bull leather strap, designed for a more vintage aesthetic. Both possess quick-release spring bars.
