Bluetile and Nike SB Launch ‘Monarch Butterfly’ Dunk Low for 25th Anniversary

The collaboration marks the skate retailer’s first project with Nike SB, drawing on themes of immigration and community connection.

In its maiden collaboration with Nike SB, South Carolina skate company Bluetile is offering significantly more than merely a new colourway. The Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low “Monarch Butterfly” transcends superficial aesthetics, employing the insect's renowned journey as a significant emblem of movement, identity, and the quest for belonging. The butterfly's journey parallels the real-life struggles of Mexican immigrants, serving as a poignant homage to the varied individuals who enrich and elevate Bluetile's local skate culture.

This intimate project centers on the narrative of Irving, a member of the Bluetile team, who transitioned from Veracruz, Mexico, to become a vital component of the South Carolina skate community. The Dunk Low translates this narrative into footwear, showcasing a dark black foundation adorned with textured leather accents. Vivid “Campfire Orange” accents and deep “Marina” blue Swooshes emulate the distinctive wings of the Monarch while also echoing the sunset tones of Columbia, South Carolina, so solidifying a sense of locality. To enhance the narrative, the shoe features various deliberate design elements. Distinctive fuzzy laces provide a tactile dimension to the design, while personalised butterfly-themed heel embroidery and graphic insoles complete the homage. The outcome is a meticulously detailed, community-oriented collaboration in which each component appears justified rather than simply ornamental.

The Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low “Monarch Butterfly” will be launched according to a unique staggered timetable. The rollout commences with an in-store launch on May 2, 2026, at Bluetile’s Columbia location, succeeded by a Charleston release on May 3. An expanded internet release will occur on May 4 via Bluetile's official website. The retail price is established at $135 USD, however a comprehensive Nike SNKRS release remains unconfirmed.
