The numbered editions celebrate Gaudí’s distinctive organic aesthetics, from Casa Calvet’s heart-shaped chairs to the skeletal elegance seen in Casa Batlló.

BD Barcelona is commemorating the centenary of Antoni Gaudí by reissuing a curated collection of his furniture designs. Initially built for Casa Calvet and Casa Batlló, these sculptures were intended as extensions of architecture and the human form rather than simply embellishments. Chairs, benches, stools, coat hangers, mirrors, and metal fittings exemplify Gaudí’s idea of form influenced by movement and quotidian use, encapsulating a harmony between usefulness and sculptural expression. Every item in the collection is meticulously carved from solid varnished oak, a medium that Gaudí metamorphosed into fluid, ergonomic shapes. Backrests contour to align with the spine, seats expand to accommodate weight distribution, and legs slightly twist to provide an impression of lightness despite the wood's sturdiness. The metal fittings, including door handles and knobs, were handcrafted in clay prior to being cast in brass, preserving traces of Gaudí’s tactile movements in their ultimate form. These particulars guarantee that each act of utilisation perpetuates the initial discourse between the human body and design.
