Jaejun Lee’s solo show, Stillness in Blue - Captured Moments, is now exhibited at otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE until October 12, 2025.

Otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE is presently showcasing "Stillness in Blue – Captured Moments," the inaugural solo exhibition in Hong Kong by UK-based Korean ceramist Jaejun Lee. Capitalizing on his triumph at Art Collaboration Kyoto last year, Lee presents a collection of his distinctive lake-blue glazed porcelain creations crafted from the same Korean clay he has transported over 5,000 miles.

Lee's practice exemplifies a nuanced equilibrium between vitality and tranquility. Each piece takes numerous imperceptible processes, including preparation, shaping, glazing, and finalization—where painstaking attention intersects with the unpredictability of burning. For the artist, the kiln serves as a revered adjudicator: notwithstanding meticulous preparation and instinct, the last glaze patterns and textures yield an element of surprise, instructing him to accept both unforeseen beauty and imperfection. This year's exhibition holds further significance as the Korean clay he has utilized for 18 years has been rendered obsolete; with his remaining supply, Lee immortalizes its concluding moments in porcelain.

The exhibition prominently features Lee's moon jars, contemporary renditions of mid-Joseon Dynasty vases that encapsulate Confucian principles of simplicity and harmony. Traditionally constructed from two hemispheres united at their equator, Lee’s moon jars are crafted in porcelain, featuring his distinctive lake-blue finish that cascades into graceful drops. These pieces inspire the serenity of a full moon, while illustrating the artist's profound connection to his cultural history, and signify the commencement of Lee's subsequent creative phase at otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE.
