Mercedes is redefining the concept of a flagship limousine with the 2027 S-Class in the context of a post-EQS era. Instead of pursuing an alternative electric design, the vehicle reinforces the traditional long-bonnet, three-box configuration while discreetly integrating advanced processing and driver-assistance technology beneath the surface. MB.OS functions as a liquid-cooled supercomputer, supplying data to a fourth-generation MBUX system, adaptive suspension, and a 27-sensor safety suite designed to advance the vehicle towards elevated levels of supervised autonomy during its operational lifespan.

The MBUX Superscreen features a 14.4-inch central display, accompanied by dual 12.3-inch panels for the driver and passenger, while rear passengers benefit from 13.1-inch monitors and detachable remotes, transforming the back row into a connected executive lounge. The S-Class is a software-defined flagship, with AI-driven voice assistance, Google Maps-based navigation, Zoom and Teams video conferencing, and over-the-air updates, allowing it to adapt post-delivery. The vehicle prioritises comfort by incorporating heated seatbelts, clever digital vent management, and a high-efficiency air filtration system, all integrated with Airmatic or E-Active Body management to maintain a climate-controlled cabin environment.

The primary modification is the M177 Evo 4.0-litre V8 using a flat-plane crank in the S580, which produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft, complemented by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that provides substantial power without excessive intensity. The S500's revised 3.0-liter inline-six engine increases torque and features an overtorque function, whereas the S580e plug-in hybrid integrates this engine with a more powerful electric motor, yielding 576 hp and an extended electric vehicle range. The S-Class facelift features rear-axle steering of up to 10 degrees, cloud-connected adaptive damping, and an expanded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, indicating Mercedes' intent to recalibrate the S-Class for a decade dominated by SUVs, while maintaining its role as the benchmark for brand sophistication.
