Redesigned by Rei Kawakubo, the brand’s Kyoto store debuts a bold three-floor configuration, where pared-back interiors frame fashion as an evolving art form.

COMME des GARÇONS has commemorated the reopening of its Kyoto store with a remarkable refurbishment and a unique exhibition. Opened in 2002 as the brand's second domestic street-level store, this site is situated in a tranquil, historic neighbourhood near Oike-dori. Under the direct supervision of Rei Kawakubo, the refurbishment increased the area to three levels, significantly transforming the interior from its previous dismal 'freezer' idea to a radiant setting that starkly contrasts with the building’s signature jet-black façade.
The redesigned flagship now functions as an all-encompassing center for the CDG universe. The first and second floors feature Kawakubo-designed lines such as HOMME PLUS, PLAY, and the primary women’s collection, and the third floor presents brands like tao, noir kei ninomiya, and JUNYA WATANABE to the Kyoto location for the inaugural time.

The store commemorated its launch with an extraordinary in-store mini-runway show featuring the BLACK COMME des GARÇONS SS26 line. The collection highlighted a gender-neutral, universal allure, featuring monochrome layered silhouettes, deconstructed tailoring, and a subversive manipulation of proportions characteristic of the BLACK sub-label.
