ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming has reclaimed his position as China's richest person on the 2026 Hurun China Rich List, with his fortune rising 43% to nearly $100 billion. His return reflects the increasing influence of technology entrepreneurs in China's wealth rankings.

Zhong Shanshan, founder of Nongfu Spring, ranked second with approximately $61 billion, followed by CATL founder Robin Zeng Yuqun with $57.3 billion and Tencent's Pony Ma Huateng with $51.5 billion.

AI Entrepreneurs Rise as Property Wealth Declines

Artificial intelligence has emerged as a major driver of wealth, with approximately 160 entrepreneurs on the list linked to AI-related businesses. DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng entered the rankings at seventh place with an estimated $41.7 billion, while Cambricon Technologies founder Chen Tianshi joined the top ten with $30.5 billion.

Meanwhile, mainland property developers disappeared from China's top 100 richest individuals for the first time. A decade ago, real estate entrepreneurs represented approximately one-third of the top 100, underscoring the dramatic shift in China's wealth landscape.

The 2026 rankings highlight the growing importance of technology and artificial intelligence as traditional property fortunes continue to lose ground.
