VinFast Names Founder’s Eldest Son Pham Nhat Quan Anh as Chairman in Leadership Succession

In a significant transition for the Vietnamese EV maker, VinFast has appointed Pham Nhat Quan Anh—the eldest son of multi-billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong—to steer the company’s boardroom governance and international expansion strategy.

The nomination, effective last Saturday, resulted in his succession of Le Thi Thu Thuy, who departed from the firm's board to concentrate on her position as vice chairperson of the parent business Vingroup, as stated in a Monday announcement. Vingroup, chaired by Vuong, has a 50% stake in the electric vehicle manufacturer.

Quan Anh, 33, held the positions of vice chairman and standing deputy general director at VinFast before to his appointment. He possesses a bachelor's degree in business administration from Singapore administration University and worked as deputy CEO of Vingroup's resort division, Vinpearl, from 2017 to 2019. He commenced his tenure at VinFast in February 2019 and ascended to the board of directors in November of the previous year. He holds multiple managerial positions at the corporation and serves as the CEO of VinMetal, the steel production unit of Vingroup.

VinFast was established by Vuong in 2017 and first manufactured gasoline-powered vehicles before completely transitioning to electric vehicles four years later. It recorded unprecedented revenues of VND90.4 trillion (US$3.6 billion) last year, reflecting a 139% increase from 2024, however had a net loss exceeding VND97 trillion.

This month, it announced its intention to divest its manufacturing operations in Vietnam and transfer around VND182 trillion in liabilities to a consortium of purchasers, including Vuong.
