For more than six decades, the families of Stanley Ho and Henry Fok have remained among the most influential forces in Hong Kong and Macau. What began as a business partnership that helped transform Macau into a global gaming hub has evolved into a multigenerational relationship that continues to connect two of Greater China's most prominent billionaire dynasties.

Building Macau's Economic Foundation
The relationship between Stanley Ho and Henry Fok dates back to 1961, when they joined forces to secure Macau's gaming concession. Alongside other prominent businessmen, the pair played a pivotal role in reshaping the city's economy.
While Ho focused on casino operations and hospitality, Fok invested heavily in transportation, ports and logistics infrastructure. Their complementary strengths helped turn Macau from a small colonial enclave into one of Asia's leading tourism and entertainment destinations.
From Partnership to Rivalry
As Macau's gaming industry expanded, Stanley Ho became the public face of the sector and earned international recognition as the city's casino king.
The growing prominence of Ho's gaming empire eventually led to tensions between the two businessmen. In 2002, Henry Fok exited STDM, ending a partnership that had lasted for more than four decades.
Despite the separation, both men continued to speak respectfully about one another, preserving a relationship that extended beyond business interests.
A Legacy That Endured
The strength of that bond became evident when Stanley Ho helped carry Fok's coffin at his funeral in 2006, a gesture widely interpreted as a sign of enduring respect.
Years later, the connection between the two families remains intact. Members of both dynasties continue to appear together at business, political and charitable events, reflecting the lasting influence of a relationship forged during Macau's formative years.
The Next Generation
Today, the Ho family remains deeply involved in Macau's gaming and hospitality sectors, while the Fok family continues to hold influence across business, politics and sports.
Although the personal partnership that once defined the relationship belongs to history, the two families remain part of the same elite network that continues to shape the economic and social landscape of Hong Kong and Macau.
More than 60 years after Stanley Ho and Henry Fok first joined forces, their legacy serves as a rare example of how business alliances can evolve into enduring dynastic connections.
