Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire a major minority stake in Liverpool FC as part of a billionaire-backed investment group. The transaction could value the Premier League club at around $6 billion and mark Bezos’ first major move into football ownership.

Billionaire Consortium Targets Liverpool
Bezos is part of an investment consortium seeking to acquire roughly one-third of Liverpool Football Club from current owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG). The group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
The proposed investment could value Liverpool at approximately £4.4 billion or $6 billion. If completed at that valuation, the transaction would rank among the biggest deals involving a football club and bring some of the world’s wealthiest investors into the ownership structure of one of England’s most successful teams.
FSG Expected to Retain Control
Fenway Sports Group has controlled Liverpool since acquiring the club for £300 million in 2010. Despite selling a significant minority stake under the proposed deal, FSG is expected to remain Liverpool’s controlling shareholder. The group has previously explored outside investment while maintaining its long-term ownership of the club.
The potential transaction also highlights Liverpool’s dramatic rise in value under FSG. A previous minority investment by Dynasty Equity in 2023 valued the club at more than $4.5 billion while the latest deal could push that figure to around $6 billion.
Bezos Moves Closer to Sports Ownership
For Bezos, the investment would represent a significant step into professional sports ownership. The billionaire has previously been linked with potential investments in U.S. sports franchises but has yet to establish a major ownership position in a football club.
His potential involvement also reflects the growing appeal of elite football clubs among global investors. With strong international brands and rapidly rising valuations, Premier League teams have increasingly attracted billionaires and investment groups seeking exposure to the global sports industry.
