An ideal fusion of catamaran proficiency and opulence. The two-time Formula 1 world champion elucidates why the 60 Sunreef Power Eco fulfilled all his criteria for his inaugural yacht.

Fernando Alonso is anticipating the arrival of the inaugural unit of the 60 Sunreef Power Eco, for which he commissioned a bespoke version last September. The catamaran will provide emission-free, cutting-edge electric propulsion powered by the shipyard's composite-integrated photovoltaic system and the lightest batteries in the industry. The two-time Formula One world champion elucidates his rationale for selecting the model and outlines his maritime intentions.

What motivated you to commission an all-electric yacht?

The world is progressing in this direction. We are becoming cognizant and desire greater sustainability. Significant transformations in global travel have occurred in recent years, and I believe it is very logical to pursue an electric catamaran. This style of sailboat fosters a more intimate connection with the seas. The world is transitioning to electric power, and yachts should thus adapt.

The decision was exceedingly straightforward. Sunreef is renowned for its superior quality and has established an excellent reputation over the past two decades. I desired to construct a catamaran to benefit from the increased room and the various advantages associated with multihulls. Simultaneously, my objective was to construct a luxury vessel of unparalleled quality. Sunreef fulfilled all my criteria about space, catamaran proficiency, lifestyle, and opulence. The decision was unequivocal for me.

Identify three essential features for your prospective yacht.

The initial priority is a grill, which is essential for me. I greatly appreciate extended evening barbecue gatherings with friends and family, making this crucial to me. I desire a high-quality sound system, as music will play a significant role in the onboard lifestyle. Finally, I will undoubtedly have aquatic toys available for our enjoyment of both leisure on the sunpads and athletic activities.

What is your intended destination for your yacht?

I will likely be residing in Monaco. I will sail in the French Riviera, Corsica, and Sardinia. My cruising region will primarily encompass the south of France and the Mediterranean.

What are your expectations as a yacht owner?

This will be my inaugural yacht, thus I possess no particular specifications. I desire the yacht to be perpetually prepared for departure. I occasionally venture into the sea spontaneously, thus I seek assurance regarding the yacht's reliability. I desire a yacht in which I may have confidence. While the technology of this electric yacht is intricate, I recognize the considerable work Sunreef is investing, which instills a strong sense of confidence in me. I anticipate enjoying time aboard.

What constitutes your ideal day at sea?

My ideal day at sea would commence at a leisurely hour. The day would commence with breakfast aboard, accompanied by friends and family. This would be succeeded by swimming and several aquatic sports. Subsequent to lunch, we would all unwind, converse, and bask in the sun. The dinner will consist of a BBQ that we will prepare and cook together for our enjoyment.
