In celebration of the inauguration of Fauré Le Page’s inaugural store in Suria KLCC, Malaysia, creative director Augustin de Buffévent explores the brand’s illustrious heritage, design ethos, and the intrinsic art of seduction.

Congratulations on the inauguration of Fauré Le Page's inaugural shop in Kuala Lumpur! What motivated the choice to introduce the brand to the Malaysian market?

It appeared to be an instinctive decision. All endeavors commence with enthusiasm, and I have a profound admiration for Kuala Lumpur. The city is a stunning cultural amalgamation, teeming with ideas. I have already visited and was captivated by its vibrancy – and, naturally, the cuisine! It is among the finest globally.

Our brand motto, Armes pour Séduire, encapsulates the notion that love is a conflict. This ideology profoundly resonates in a cosmopolitan metropolis such as Kuala Lumpur. Furthermore, Malaysians possess refined preferences that connect seamlessly with our brand principles.

What is the narrative underlying Fauré Le Page's distinctive design aesthetic?

Each luxury brand possesses a unique narrative, although ours is distinctly remarkable. Fauré Le Page originated as a luxury gunsmith, producing firearms for aristocracy, monarchs, and emperors throughout Europe. Marie Antoinette was a patron, as she was an enthusiastic hunter.

Alongside weaponry, the business developed leather goods designed for their transport - lightweight, sturdy bags for ammo and personal belongings. Eventually, we decided to abandon weapon manufacturing and concentrate exclusively on bags, redefining them as “weapons of seduction.”

Our emblematic scale motif embodies this legacy. It resembles armor, symbolizing power, protection, and allure. Each detail—such as shoulder straps influenced by military uniforms and clasps reminiscent of revolver barrels—honors our history while incorporating a contemporary flair.

Reflecting on the brand's heritage, is there a narrative that resonates profoundly with you?

There is an abundance! Nonetheless, one of the most notable aspects is Fauré Le Page’s involvement in the French Revolution. The Le Page family provided armaments to the revolutionaries - a crucial juncture in history. It is remarkable to feel linked to such a pivotal event, particularly as the French Revolution culminated in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Participating in this monumental chapter of history is very significant.

What is your methodology for the design and launch of Fauré Le Page products?

We do not adhere to the rapid tempo of fashion. As a boutique maison, we meticulously refine each product. Each item is subjected to stringent durability assessments. Our canvas printing process necessitates exact degrees of humidity and pressure, like an art form.

We introduce products based on their readiness rather than according to seasonal timelines. This embodies our philosophy: love requires time. Each piece is meticulously made with exclusivity, rendering it more than a mere thing. The art of seduction invariably include an element of surprise.

What is your assessment of the new boutique?

Our store is intended to evoke a homely atmosphere—an appealing, personal environment that embodies the principles of our family enterprise. We collaborated with Jean Gatineau, a skilled French architect, to establish an ambiance that merges the allure of a Parisian apartment with whimsical, unforeseen elements.

For example, there exists a daisy-shaped table where patrons can "evaluate their affection." This is not merely a retail environment; it is an experience that encourages you to engage with our realm of history, artistry, and allure.
